A few Leafs takes to start...
-Can someone provide a lineup configuration that we all feel is optimal moving forward? So many questions, not enough answers right now. With Matthews playing better, Domi starting to show why fans wanted him back and were fine with his long-term contract in the offseason and Laughton's early struggles after being acquired at the deadline, where do we go from here? No really. I’m asking because I honestly have no clue at this point.
-Regarding Laughton's struggles, Berube was pressed on that very topic after the win over the Avs.
He's right. He has to just calm down and play. He's much better than what he's shown and it's important for the Leafs to get him going because I'm confident in saying this: Laughton will play a factor in the playoffs. Mark my words.
-I'm really liking Carlo's addition thus far. He's grading out really well analytically but it's more than just that. It's his calming presence that is going to go a long way. I think his overall makeup is a perfect compliment for Rielly. The Leafs have a legit top four on defence and it's nice to see.
-I like the Leafs’ aggressiveness regarding NCAA free agents. They’re routinely sitting atop the league in recent years when it comes to lack of draft capital largely due to years of trying win a Stanley Cup and being aggressive at the deadline, etc. The signing of John Prokop intrigues me. Looking forward to seeing what he can do at training camp next fall.
-Enough talk when it comes to Vladdy re-signing with the Jays. Just get it done already. Shapiro has said the right things publicly but it’s time to get it across the finish line.
